A UX Club's Identity

XD Roundtable

A UX Club's Identity

Project Overview

I am currently a member of the XD Roundtable club at DePaul University. The XD Roundtable is a club for current Human Computer Interaction students, as well as alumni. As a member, I was asked to design the club’s identity. I worked directly with the club’s president and board to create the branding.

My Role

I designed the logo, color scheme and typography styling for the XD Roundtable.

Tools

  • Adobe Illustrator

The Process

The club’s board presented me with a creative brief, which described what they were looking for in their new identity. The club asked me to create a logo that encompassed their mission statement.

Mission Statement:
“We are a collective of individuals who are looking to provide a platform for personal and professional growth of DePaul students in the UX industry.”

The board provided two ideas for the logo, which I chose to build of off. We went through numerous rounds of ideas and edits. First I created all of the logo ideas in black and white to ensure that the logo could stand alone without color.

Once we landed on the logo, we started working with various color schemes for the logo. The club wanted to have four color accent colors. Having a wide range of accent colors in the branding allowed the club to pull in the different colors on the promotional materials and emails. However, we decided to have one primary color that the logo would always use. This would ensure that the brand was easily identifiable.

The Outcome

The logo uses a rough circle to represent the fluid conversations, exploration of projects and creative nature of the XD Roundtable. The primary color of the logo will is a plum purple with three other accent colors yellow, orange and light blue. The typography utilizes two weights of the Montserrat typeface.
